Lesson Summary
The students will compile and present ways to help a country from around the world. The students will create a powerpoint presentation to demonstart the following items: volunteerism, supporting education, planning community events, working to preserve the environment and helping the homeless.

The will be working on the coutries around the world. The students will choose one country from a preivios lesson that is need of assitence and create a plan to help.

Notes on Using Data
The students will use data from the first lesson to assist in their decision on which country to assists. The students will be able to modify and make any changes needed. The assignment will be saved on the school u drive. This will allow the students to pull the assigment up on any computer in the school.

Problem Statement
Students will pick a country from the graphing around the world lesson and create a plan to help for each of the following items, volunteering, helping with homeless, planning a community event, and supporting education. The students will search the internet to find out information on the items and the country. The students will brainstorm ways to help and create a powerpoint to help explain their stratigies.

Integration Strategies
The students will use proir knowledge on the countries as well as newly acquired knowledge through the internet search to connect the information to the new assignment.

Organization Strategies
The students will present a 10 slide powerpoint to show how they would help the country and way they picked the county.

Elaboration Strategies
The students will find ways other then those posted to help the coutry. The students can also use special effects to showcase their creative computer skills.


Results Presentation

The students will create a powerpoint presentation. The presentation will consist of at least one slide with each topic. The students will include a title page, a reference page and pictures using clip art. The students will need to use spell check to check for spelling errors. The students will present the project to the entire class on the last day.

Activities Before Using the Computer
The students will work brainstorm several ways to help the country of choice.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
The students will be shown several pictures of the devestation of some of the countries around the world. The students will be ask to write how they would feel if they lived in a situation like this. The students can talk about it in the groups while they are coming up with ways to help the other countries.

 

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
The students will work in groups of four. The groups will consist of four roles. The roles include the researcher, the manager/leader, peacekeeper/time tracker and the presenter. Each student will have a laptop to work with; therefore, the students will all take on the role of the researcher. All students will be able to use the computers at all times.

 

Activities After Using the Computer
The students will write their feelings in a brief summary about how they feel about the help that can be provided.

Supporting Activities
The students will all use the computers at the same time. The students will have time investigate a varity of books on natural diasters, different countries and aid for others.

The powerpoint presentation will be used to assess the students. The students will also use a team evaluation to assess their teammates.
