Grade Level: 3

Lesson Summary
Third graders become familiar with graphs through the use of word processing, spreadsheets and graphics.Students count readily avaialable sources, like their classmates gender, hair and eye color to construct graphs.

Learning Objectives and Computer Functions
This lesson plan uses 3 objectives.

Objective 1: Basic typing and keyboard familiarity
Uses Word Processing to type numbers

Uses Word Processing to type letters

Problem
Problem Nature
Basic typing skills are enhanced as we count and note the similarities of objects, then group them by category to reveal a graph.

Problem Data
generated

Notes on Using Data
Data will be compiled on a spreadsheet, the student will be ale to change or update data. Students can take turns counting, writing or typing the corresponding numbers of the object.

Problem Statement
Good morning class. Today we will begin our study of graphs. Can anyone come to the board and draw a picture of a graph? Let\\\'s design our own graphs, first we will need to get in our groups. Count the number of boys in our class, now girls. How many of them have brown eyes, black, blue or other. Note all your answers, go over each one to make sure you are correct. place your team names on your answers and delegate a person to write each boys and each girls name and one person to read the information and one to type it in the correct boxes on the computer.

Data Manipulation
Instructions
The learner used computers at intermediate level

Integration Strategies
Do we have more boys or girls? How many of you have brown eyes, raise your hand, were you correct? out of these charts, can anyone point out which represent the boys and girls, the eye colors, then hair color.

Organization Strategies
Students will relate to their group. Students will improve social relations. Students will learn to depend on each other in a group setting.

Elaboration Strategies
students will randomly choose objects and formulate their own graphs. Students will be able to chose and develop illustrations from computer graphics. Students will demonstrate the learned skill by performing an independent exerise of their chosing any objects of their choosing. Will be allowed to print, display and explain what his graph entails.

Results Presentation
The student will keep record in his daily journal. The student will be reminded of his final presentation and what is will be based upon. Student will also use the internet to find other graphs.

The student will be allowed to save his computer project to a file and print. The wriiten report and colored graph will be compiled for final oral presentation.

Students will deliver a 3-5 minute final presentation to be orally presente before his class.

Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Practice simple keystrokes and typing for beginners, view graphic software.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Group learning and the respect of property and self-cntrol.

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
One student to record data One sudent to check the answer. One student will type the data into the spreadsheet on the computer. Students to rotate rolls daily.

Activities After Using the Computer
Save file and send to parent\\\'s and teacher email. Student can try to locate another type of graph and explain in their own words what it means.

Supporting Activities
Organizing the teams supplies, looking up graphs in the reference book, rechecking the work

Assessment
Students will be assessed by means of:

Included in the assessment:
can student perform exercise alone how does he work in a group Is he able to perform similar computer
